Nepal suffers 1-run defeat to South Africa, crashes out of race to Super Eight

Nepal lost to South Africa by one run in the third group stage match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held in West Indies on Saturday.

South Africa restricted Nepal to 114 runs in a nail-biting match while the latter was chasing the 116-run target.

With this loss to South Africa, Nepal has crashed out of its journey to the Super Eight of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Nepal, which lost to Netherlands by six wickets in the first match, could not face Sri Lanka in the second match due to bad weather. Now, Nepal will take on Bangladesh on Monday in the last match of the World Cup.

On the other hand, South Africa has already reached the Super Eight as an unbeaten team with four wins in a row representing 'Group D'. 

To restrict Nepal from reaching the target, Tabraiz Shamsi  took the highest four wickets giving away 19 runs while while Anrich Nortje and Aiden Markram grabbed one wicket each for South Africa. 

Ashif Sheikh made the highest 42 runs inclduing four fours and one six off 49 balls followed by Anil Sah with 27 runs while Kushal Bhurtel scored 13 runs. The other batsmen of Nepal could not score double-digit runs.

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, South Africa notched up 115 runs losing seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

To restrict South Africa to the 115-run, Kushal Bhurtel took the highest four wickets giving away 19 runs in four overs. Similarly, Deependra Singh Airee grabbed three wickets conceding 21 runs to exert pressure on the opponent.

South Africa's Reeza Hendricks made the highest 43 runs including five fours and one six off 49 balls followed by Tristan Stubbs with 27 runs and captain Aiden Markram with 15 runs. Similarly, Quinton de Kock made 10 runs while the other batsmen could not achieve double-digit runs.
