The counting of proportional representation votes have been finished. According to Surya Prasad Aryal, the assistant spokesperson of the Election Commission (EC), a total of 10,560,082 votes have been counted.
Only seven parties have crossed the threshold out of 47 parties who contested the elections under the PR category of the House of Representatives (HoR).
According to the EC, seven parties -- CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajbadi Party and Janamat Party -- have crossed the threshold.
Apart from being able to elect PR members of parliament, they also received the recognition of the national party status.
The parties should win at least one first-past-the-post (FPTP) seat in the HoR apart from crossing the threshold to qualify for the national party.
But 40 out of 47 parties participating in PR elections could not cross the threshold.
Even after winning 10 FPTP seats, the ruling (United Socialist) could not cross the threshold. It got 298,391 PR votes. Since the Unified Socialist did not cross the threshold, the votes are lost.
