A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) convened a while ago has decided to resume power supplies for the industries.

The lines had been disconnected to the industries for failing to pay the bills.

The NEA took a decision to this effect after a board meeting where all members except Kapil Acharya and Bhakta Bahadur Pun supported the motion of reconnecting the lines.

“The decision has been made in line with the decision taken yesterday,” said a member said, “Managing Director Kulman Ghising floated a proposal to reconnect the lines to six industries on the condition of recovering dues in the next three months. The proposal was endorsed by a majority.”

The meeting of the Board of Directors held on Monday had ended inclusively. With the decision taken to resume power supplies on Tuesday, six industries will have their power restored.

The NEA on July 9 and 11 had disconnected lines to six industries including Reliance Spinning Mills, Arghakhanchi Cement, Ghorahi Cement, Jagadamba Steels, Jagadamba Synthetics, and Hulas Steels.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on July 19 had directed MD Ghising to immediately reconnect lines to industries.

The Board of Directors is comprised of Energy Minister Deepak Khadka (chairman), Energy Secretary Sarita Dawadi (member), Finance Secretary Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire (member), Bhakta Bahadur Pun from consumers group (member), Kapil Acharya and Ratan Bahadur Ayer from energy sector (members), Bharat Raj Acharya from FNCCI (member) and Kulman Ghising (Member Secretary) from NEA.

Industries and the NEA have been at odds over the charges for using dedicated and trunk electricity lines.
