The agreement on the appointments of ambassadors was reached between Prime Minister Oli and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

According to the deal, UML will recommend ambassadors to America, China, Britain and Russia. These countries wield significant influence across the globe.

Similarly, Nepali Congress will recommend ambassadors to India, Japan, Australia and Malaysia, a source close to Prime Minister Oli told Nepalkhabar.

Of the two neighboring countries, UML will recommend an ambassador to China while NC will do so to India, according to the agreement.

Currently, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha is serving as the Nepali Ambassador to China. Shrestha had been appointed on the recommendation of CPN (Maoist Center).

Sources have said that the government is making preparations to recall Shrestha from China ahead of the appointment of a new ambassador.

Likewise, incumbent Ambassador Kailash Raj Pokharel will also be recalled from Australia. Unified Socialist had recommended Pokharel as the Nepali Ambassador to Australia.

The previous government recalled ambassadors to India, the United States, and the United Kingdom. However, Dr. Shankar Sharma continues to serve as Nepal’s ambassador to India.
