Seven out of 15 RPP candidates on the list set to become PR MPs

Seven political parties have earned the national party status through the elections held on November 20.

According to the Election Commission (EC), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Janamat Party have become national parties.

To become a national party, at least one seat in the House of Representatives and 3 percent of the valid proportional representation (PR) votes must be obtained.

NC, which won the highest number of 57 first-past-the-post (FPTP) seats in the HoR, got 2,715,225 PR votes. With 32 PR members of parliament (MPs), NC has become the largest party in the HoR with 89 seats.

UML, which won 44 seats directly, got the highest number of 2,845,641 RP votes. With addition of 34 PR MPs, UML has become the second largest party in the HoR with 78 seats. In the previous election, UML had become the first party.

The Maoist Center, which won 18 seats directly, has become the third power in the HoR with 32 seats, adding 14 seats from 1,175,684 votes.

The RSP, which debuted in the elections, won 7 FPTP seats. With 1,130,344 PR votes, it received 13 seats, taking the total number of seats to 20 (fourth largest party).

RPP, which advocates for monarchy and Hindu nation, has succeeded in becoming the fifth force in national politics. In the 2074 election, the RPP, which was directly reduced to one seat in the House of Representatives, has won 7 seats this time. It has added 7 more seats from the 588, 849 PR votes, bringing the total number of seats to 14.

According to the constitutional provision, there is a constitutional provision that all parties must elect at least 33 percent women MPs in the federal parliament.

"It is not a matter of deciding who will become a member of parliament on the proportional side," RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha told Nepalkhabar.

According to the existing constitutional provisions, the number of Adivasi-Janajati in the House of Representatives should be 28.70 percent, Khas-Arya 31.20 percent, Tharu 6.60 percent, Dalits 13.80 percent, Madhesi 15.30 percent and Muslims 4.40 percent. According to which, RPP has to select 7 members from the 15 people whose names are included in the first number of the closed list under different caste clusters.

Seven among Buddhiman Tamang, Bina Lama, Sumitra Gurung, Pashupati Shamsher Rana, Roshan Karki, Devkumari Parajuli, Krishnamaya Hitang, Giridhari Prasad Chaudhary, Shilakumari Tharu, Rishibabu Pariyar, Anisa Nepali, Prahlad Prasad Sah, Bina Jaiswal, Anjara Alam and Nazia Khatun are sure to be MPs under PR category.

Buddhiman Tamang has been blacklisted by the party in the Adivasi-Janajati cluster from men and Bina Lama from women. Pashupati Shamsher Jabara has been placed at number 1 in the Khas-Arya cluster for men and Roshan Karki for women.

From the backward region, Sumitra Gurung for women under Adivasi-Janajati cluster, Krishnamaya Hitang for women in Khas-Arya cluster and Shyam Bahadur Shahi for men feature in the first number of the closed list.

The RPP has submitted the closed list by putting Devkumari Parajuli as the disabled in the Khas-Arya cluster, Giridhari Prasad Choudhary in the Tharu cluster and Shilakumari Tharu under the female category, Rishibabu Pariyar in the Dalit cluster and Anisa Nepali in the female category.

Similarly, Prahlad Prasad Sah from male and Bina Jaiswal from female in Madhesi cluster and Anjara Alam from male and Nazia Khatun from female in Muslim cluster are listed first on the list.

Rajendra Lingden (Jhapa-3), Dhawal Shamsher Rana (Banke-2), Deepak Bohara (Rupandehi-3), Bikram Pandey (Chitwan-3), Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi (Jumla), Deepak Bahadur Singh (Makwanpur-1) and Dhruv Bahadur Pradhan ( Nawalparasi-2) have been directly elected as members of the HoR.

The leader of the parliamentary party (PP) will be elected unanimously.

RPP has prepared to unanimously elect the PP leader. Spokesperson Shrestha informed that the leader of the party will be elected unanimously claiming that President Lingden will be the PP leader.

“The RPP succeeded in taking a giant leap in the elections under the leadership of Chairman Lingden.He will be elected as the PP leader of our party,” argued Shrestha.

He went on to say that all the credit goes to President Lingden for increasing the RPP to 14 seats by one seat and becoming the fifth power.
