Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Dambar Khadka has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding a election recount in Ilam 2.
Claiming that the vote count was rigged to ensure CPN (UML) candidate Subash Chandra Nembang's win, Khadka filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, demanding the annulment of the declaration of election result and a recount of votes.
In the writ, Khadka alleged that vote count officials invalidated the valid votes of the NC, upheld the invalid votes of the UML, improperly handled ballot boxes and the counting was often expedited in the absence of NC representative during the counting of votes.
Moreover, ballot boxes were often kept away from sight of security personnel and party representatives. At the end, UML candidate Nembang was declared the winner overnight after resorting to a web of fraudulent activities, the writ adds.
The writ demanded to revoke the election result and initate a recount of votes, claiming that Nembang was declared winner overnight as the vote count was carried out sans heed to the NC, which formally requested the election office to postpone the counting.
