One killed after being swept away by Balkhu River in Kathmandu

A person has died after being swept away by the swollen Balkhu Rriver in Kathmandu.

The police found a dead body stuck under the Bulkhu Bridge. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Ramswarup Mahato of Banke.

According to the spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Dinesh Raj Mainali, Mahato, who was living in Sukumbasi (squatters) tole of Kathmandu, died in the flood.

Mainali said that they have already contacted the family members of the deceased and are going to hand over the body to them.

After torrential rain that poured down last night in the Kathmandu Valley, the water level in Bagmati and its tributaries Hanumante, Manohara, Dhobikhola, Godawari, Bishnumati, Nakkhu, Balkhukhola among others crossed the danger level.

Spokesperson Mainali informed that the flood has affected the riverside road and some settlements have been submerged.
