National Security Adviser Bairagi resigns

National Security Adviser Shanker Das Bairagi has tendered his resignation.

Bairagi told Nepalkhabar that he stepped down on July 9. The information was kept under wraps until it was revealed to the media today.

Talking to Nepalkhabar, Bairagi said, "There is no special reason. I decided to read and write remaining outside the government.”

He was appointed National Security Adviser after having served as Foreign Secretary, Chief Secretary.

According to sources, he did not feel comfortable after KP Sharma Oli became the Prime Minister.

The government led by then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda’ created the post of National Security Adviser on June 15, 2023 and appointed Bairagi to the post. He resigned as Chief Secretary three months before the expiry of his term, and was appointed as National Security Adviser.

Baikuntha Aryal took over the post of Chief Secretary after Bairagi was promoted as National Security Advisor.

Aryal has been suspended in a corruption case, currently.
