Nepali Embassy urges its citizens in Bangladesh to exercise caution amid unrest

400 Nepali students are in contact with the Embassy

Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka has made an appeal to the Nepali people in Bangladesh to exercise caution in view of the ongoing anti-government protests in the country.

Issuing a press note on Monday, the Embassy has urged all the Nepali people in Bangladesh to exercise maximum caution in view of the curfew imposed by the Bangladeshi government to quell the anti-government protests.

Most of the Nepali students studying in Bangladesh have returned to Nepal and around 400 Nepali people are in Bangladesh, according to the Embassy.

“Most of the Nepali people have returned home and around 400 Nepalis are in Bangladhesh,” the press note said, “They are in contact with the Embassy of Nepal, Dhaka.”

The Embassy has urged those willing to return to Nepal to travel back home in coordination with the Embassy only after ensuring safety.

Nearly 100 people have died and hundreds of people have sustained injuries in the renewed anti-government protests on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.

Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi government has imposed an indefinite curfew to quell the protests. The protestors who had hit the streets demanding cancellation of government job quotas reserved for various groups have started demanding the resignation of Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, of late.
