The hearing on the petition filed in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana being held today (Friday).

Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association officials filed a petition against CJ Rana and General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretaiat (FPS) Bharat Raj Gautam on Wednesday.

The hearing is set to take place in the constitutional bench of the apex court today.

FPS General Secretary Gautam has been dragged into the controversy after dispatching a letter giving clean sheet to the suspended CJ Rana.

An interim order has been sought in the writ to stay the implementation of Gautam's letter as it renders Rana's impeachment ineffective, allegedly by violating the jurisdiction of FPS general secretary.

It is claimed in the writ that as Gautam has unduly restricted and interefered the jurisdiction of the House and thus his action is illegal.

CJ Rana had been suspended since February 13 after lawmakers of the ruling alliance filed a motion of impeachment against him.

Stating that the impeachment motion against him was void, CJ Rana submitted an application to relevant authorities seeking to resume his duties in the Supreme Court. He also submitted an application for the same before the FPS last Tuesday.

Acting on Rana's application at the FPS acknowledging that the impeachment had turned ineffective, General Secretary Gautam on Wednesday dispatched a letter acquitting Rana.

Following the letter from FPS, CJ Rana was preparing to resume work at Supreme Court on Wednesday.

However, lawyers prevented Rana from entering the Supreme Court and the government also mobilized the police to prevent him from entering the Supreme Court.
