Vice Chairman of CPN (UML) Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said that his party will play the role of a strong opposition in the parliament.
He said so during interaction with the media in Butwal on Friday.
"UML is a big party in terms of public mandate, but came second in terms of votes in the election," he said, adding, "Because of it, we will not be joining the government."
Clarifying that the party has not discussed government formation with any other party, Poudel said that the party took no initiative as it could not muster a majority.
Stating that the government formed would not belong to one specific party only, the UML vice chair, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi 2, said government formation would not affect the development of Rupandehi.
"Regardless of who leads the government, we will not allow development of Rupandehi to stop," he said, adding, "We will anyhow complete the development works started here."
