General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal Netra Bikram Chand alias 'Biplav' has said that the relevance of federalism being implemented in Nepal has come to an end.
Addressing an interaction in home district Kapilvastu on Friday, Biplav made strongly-worded remarks about the federalism.
Speaking at an interaction organized by Reporters Club Nepal Lumbini Province Office, the leader said the country needed 'people-oriented federalism' rather than the one being implemented in the country.
"The results of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections held on November 20 have confirmed that the legitimacy of the current political parties has also ended," he said, adding, "The country is in dire state due to the growing economic crisis."
General Secretary Biplav stressed the need for a special economic policy as the country could no longer afford currently practiced federalism. He added if the special economic program is not introduced, the country will plunge into a bigger crisis than Sri Lanka.
He also said the November 20 election also did not carry any importance. "The election of November 20 could not make the people happy," he added, "The rationale of the current practice of federalism and the electoral system has ended."
General Secretary Biplav expressed anger towards incumbent government, saying that it had not implemented the three-point agreement his party struck with the then KP Sharma Oli-led government.
Small communist parties, including Biplav's, boycotted the November 20 elections.
Stating that the parliamentary election robbed the country even more, they did not take part in the election.
