Supreme Court on Friday issued an interim order against the Parliament Secretariat’s letter lifting the suspension of Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
Hearing the writ petition filed against Rana, the Constitutional Bench led by Acting CJ Hari Krishna Karki issued an order ruling that there is legal basis that renders the impeachment against Rana null and void.
With this interim order, suspended CJ Rana has been barred from entering the Supreme Court.
General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat on Wednesday sent a letter to CJ Rana allowing him to resume his duties.
No sooner the suspension was lifted, nine lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association Chairman Purna Man Shakya filed a writ petition against the parliament secretariat’s letter lifting the suspension of Rana.
Hearing on the writ petition, the Supreme Court on Friday also issued a show-cause notice against the letter.
The Constitutional Bench led by Acting CJ Karki, Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, and Anil Kumar Sinha issued the interim order.
