The Madan Prize Guthi has decided to present the Madan Puraskar (Prize) for the year 2080 BS to Mohan Mainali and the Jagadamba Shree Puraskar to Prof Dr Yogendra Prasad Yadav.
A meeting of the Guthi on Friday decided to award Yadav citing his profound contribution to the identification, conservation study and research of Nepal's languages.
Author Mainali has won the prize for his book 'Mukam Ranamaidan (Dateline Battlefield: Tales of Anglo-Nepal War 1814-16)'. as the book was adjudged to be the best among the books published in 2080 BS.
As per Guthi's evaluation, Mainali presented his arduous research findings on the historical issue in a simple language with flow. The Guthi received 304 applications for the Prize and five books including that of Mainali were shortlisted.
The Prize was established in 2012 BS by Queen Jagadamba in commemoration of Madan Shumsher Rana. However, the award ceremony was held in 2014 BS for three creations published in 2013 BS. The amount of the initial prize was Rs 4,000 and it gradually increased to Rs 400 thousand since 2075 BS.
For the first time, Satyamohan Joshi won the prize for Hamro Lok Sanskriti (Our Folk Culture), Chittaranjan Nepali for 'General Bhimsen Thapa' and Balaram Joshi for Adhikvibhav Sthir Bidhoot Utpadak (Ultra High Voltage Static Electric Generator). Subsequently, Joshi won the prize for two more times.
The Jagadambha-Shree established by the Guthi in 2045 BS in commemoration of Queen Jagadamba carries a purse of Rs 100 thousand and it has been presented since 2045 BS. This honor is presented to any individual or an institution contributing significantly to the promotion of Nepali language, culture and literature, it is said.
