An earthquake has been recorded to have taken place in Thoche area of Manang.

According to the National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center Lainchaur, an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 3:47 am today with its epicenter near Thoche in Manang.

Tremors were felt in Mustang, Lamjung and some parts of Gorkha, aside from Manang, locals have said.

However, no casualties or damages of properties have been reported until the posting of this news.

Earlier on August 13, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 took place near Mashdev in Bajhang.

Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.

Jimee further said Nepal lies between the two tectonic plates -- Indian plate and the Eurasian Plate -- and their constant push against each other is creating energy. When the energy gets accumulated and strained, it releases in the form of seismic waves.
