Proposed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Naresh Bikram Dhakal.

Proposed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Naresh Bikram Dhakal, has said he will review the labor agreement reached between Nepal and Saudi Arabia if he were appointed to the post.

Presenting his action plan in the meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee in Singha Durbar today, Dhakal said he will review the labor agreement subsisting between Nepal and Saudi Arabia.

A draft also has been prepared to this effect, said Dhakal. He said he will review the bilateral labor agreement after giving a final touch to it.

“I will review the labor agreement between Nepal and Saudi Arabia. A draft has also been prepared to this effect.  It is yet to be given a final touch. The Saudi government has pledged a piece of land for the construction of an office building for the Nepali Embassy. I have a plan to construct an office building for Nepali Embassy during my tenure as the ambassador,” said he.

Presenting his plans at the meeting, Dhakal stated that he will review the bilateral labor agreement in accordance with the prevailing market conditions.

“The labor agreement between the two countries needs to be reviewed. The market value of labor has increased dramatically. The Nepali migrant workers have been working for an old scale.”  He further said that around 400,000 Nepali migrant workers have been working for the same pay scale for a long time.

Dhakal’s other plans include arrangement of high-level visits between the two countries, construction of embassy building, and raising awareness of Nepal migrant workers.

“There have been no high-level visits. Not only from Saudi Arabia, but I will also play my role to arrange visits from Nepal side during my tenure. I will hold talks, negotiations, and exchange invitations to arrange the exchange of bilateral visits in order to take the ties to a new height.”
