The main political parties are expediting internal preparations to submit the list of proportional representation (PR) lawmakers to the Election Commission by 4 pm today (Saturday).
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC), which became the first party in terms of first-past-the-post (FPTP) seats and second in terms of PR seats, is prepared to elect 29 female and 3 male leaders under PR category.
The NC is electing 29 female lawmakers under PR category to fulfil a constitutional provision that 33 percent of the parliamentarians represented in the federal parliament should be women.
In the remaining three seats of the total 32 seats under PR category, male NC leaders are being elected.
According to NC sources, party Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Bimalendra Nidhi and Jeevan Pariyar are being elected as PR lawmakers in the three seats left for male lawmakers.
Mahat is being elected from Khas Arya cluster, Nidhi from Madheshi cluster and Pariyar from Dalit cluster.
Gopalman Shrestha, who also figures on the closed PR list, is unlikely to be elected as PR lawmaker.
Sources say that Shrestha's chances are low due to the fact that many Adivasi-Janajati lawmakers have won FPTP seats.
Pariyar is being elected to ensure Dalit men's respresentation is not zer and to manage the internal factions within the NC. Mahat and Nidhi belong to the Deuba faction while Pariyar Shekhar to the Koirala faction.
The NC is preparing to elect Gopalman Shrestha to the National Assembly.
