The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has officially issued a notice directing internet service providers (ISPs) to lift the TikTok ban.
The Authority wrote a letter to this effect today in line with the direction from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
With this, the TikTok ban clamped by the Nepal government on the social media platform for over 10 months has been lifted paving the way for the smooth resumption of the social media platform.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 22 decided to remove the TikTok ban that was enforced by the erstwhile government since November 13, 2023, citing its negative impact on social harmony and social atmosphere, and sent a letter to the Authority directing the latter for the removal of the TikTok ban.
Spokesperson at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Gajendra Kumar Thakur said, “We had held discussions with the representatives of the TikTok yesterday and the day before yesterday (Wednesday and Thursday). After they expressed their commitment to abide by the terms and conditions of the Nepal government, the Ministry directed the Authority to fully resume operations."
