Habeas corpus writ filed at Supreme Court against Prasain's arrest

A habeas corpus writ has been filed at the Supreme Court against the arrest of Medical Professional Durga Prasain.

Narad Khawas on Monday filed the habeas corpus writ at the apex court on behalf of Prasain.

Prasain, who was arrested on Sunday from his residence in Bhaktapur, had been admitted to Bir Hospital on Sunday evening. The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has started recording statements by taking him to its office from the hospital.

Kathmandu District Police Range on Sunday remanded Prasain to three days in custody.

Meanwhile, supporters have staged demonstrations in various places including Jhapa, Kathmandu against the arrest of Prasain.

Women victims including Tika Sangraula (Jwala), the central member of Rastriya Swatantra Party had filed an FIR at the Cyber Bureau seeking stringent action against Prasain. Acting on the FIR, a police team apprehended Prasain with an arrest warrant from Kathmandu District Court.

The FIR was filed against Prasain for his objectionable statements that assassinated characters of various women, at times, accusing them of running a flesh trade.
