Ram Krishna Bhattarai, recommended ambassador to Sri Lanka, has not yet submitted his educational credentials to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC).
A meeting of the PHC was called to take a final decision on his nomination on Monday. However, the decision could not be taken due to the lack of presence of two thirds members of the committee, said Shyam Ghimire, a member of the Committee. Only eight members, out of 15, were present in today's meeting, according to Ghimire.
Ghimire further shared that Bhattarai did not submit the certificate of his Bachelor's degree even today. "The Committee has not received the certificate of his Bachelor's degree so far," said Ghimire, "His nomination might be canceled if he did not submit it even by Tuesday."
It is said the certificate is not available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well. As per the directives regarding the appointment of an ambassador, at least the completion of the Bachelor's degree is required to be academically eligible for the appointment.
A meeting of the PHC has been called for 9 am tomorrow. If his credentials are not submitted to the meeting tomorrow, his nomination might be rejected, the committee members have said.
The names of 16 people who were proposed as ambassadors for various countries along with Bhattarai have been already endorsed by the Committee.
