Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the former wife of party Vice President, Dhanraj Gurung, should be brought under the purview of the criminal offense for cooperative fund embezzlement.

Leader Koirala argued that then General Manager of Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative, Jyoti Gurung, should be brought under the scanner of criminal offense after her husband Dhanraj was dragged into the fund embezzlement case.

Talking to News Agency Nepal on Tuesday, Koirala said, "The wife of Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Jyoti Gurung, should be brought to book under the criminal offense if she were found guilty in the cooperative fund embezzlement case.

While giving statements to the Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee on Misuse of Cooperatives' funds, Chairman Kumbha Raj Gurung said that Rs 120 million to 140 million was embezzled while Jyoti Gurung was the general manager of the cooperative.

Kumbharaj, while recording his statements, further said that Vice President Dhanraj Gurung is also well informed about it. However, Nepali Congress has not made public its official statement on this issue.

"Dhanraj Gurung, as the Vice President of Nepali Congress and the Member of Parliament, should be held accountable. It's yet to be seen how the government will deal with it," said Koirala. In my point of view, anyone who commits a crime should be brought to book, irrespective of which party he/she belongs to."

He further said that the report of the Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee on Misuse of Cooperative Funds must be implemented, breaking the precedent of such reports being ignored in the past.
