The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning about potential floodings and landslides nationwide due to persistent rainfall, urging the public to exercise high precautions.
Issuing a weather bulletin at 6 am on Friday, the Department has advised people to remain alert living in 20 districts of the country, including all districts of the Terai.
The Division has urged the people to exercise precautions especially those living in all the districts of Madhesh Province, Udayapur, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Palpa, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat and their surrounding districts.
Rivers are likely to swell up and cause floodings and landslides in these districts, the Division has said.
Likewise, streams and rivers are likely swell up and might trigger floodings and landslides in Panchthar, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Myagdi, Baglung, Pyuthan, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Salyan, Surkhet, Dailekh, Acham, Doti, Dadeldhura and surrounding districts.
According to the Division, the water level in Koshi, Narayani, Karnali and its tributaries as well as Kankai and Kamala rivers are expected to remain at the alert level for the next three days, so it is necessary to take high vigilance by those living along the coastal areas.
Similarly, the water level in Narayani, Bagmati, Tinau, East Rapti, West Rapti, Babai and its tributaries is expected to reach the danger level.
