Dhorpatan Municipality Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali held in New Delhi repatriated to Kathmandu

Mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality of Baglung district, Dev Kumar Nepali, an individual accused of embezzling cooperative funds, has been brought to Kathmandu.

He was arrested in the capital city of India, New Delhi, on Friday through Interpol, and brought to Kathmandu today, Acting Inspector General of Police, Tek Prasad Rai, told Nepalkhabar.

Nepali, who is also the chairman of Image Saving and Credit Cooperative Ltd., had been on the run after misappropriating the cooperative funds deposited by various individuals.

The District Police Office, Baglung, reported that 1,573 individuals have filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against cooperative funds defaulters, including Nepali, accusing them of defrauding them of their hard-earned savings.

The Police had on January 24 had issued a red notice against Nepali and his wife Chhela Nepali through the Interpol.

A case was first filed against the cooperative funds defaulters on June 6, 2023, demanding a total of Rs.1.386 billion in outstanding fines, the Baglung police said.
