Traffic through the bridge of Koshi Barrage along the East-West Highway has resumed since Sunday evening.

Chief District Officer of Saptari, Mekh Bahadur Magrati informed that the decision has been taken to allow traffic operation with the water level in the Koshi River subsiding.

"The movement through the bridge was banned since 4.00 pm on Saturday after the flow of water crossed alarming level in the Koshi. The movement has been opened for the general public from Sunday evening as the water level has steadily decreased since Sunday morning", he said.

It took eight hours to clear the debris collected by the flood on the Koshi bridge. The waste piled up on the bridge has been removed using security personnel, local residents and dozers, it was shared.

The water level in the Koshi River is receding. According to the Koshi Barrage Control Room, the flow of water has come down to 345,415 cusecs at 7.30 pm on Sunday.

On Saturday, 661,000 cusecs of water was measured in the River which was the highest in the history of 56 years. The incessant rainfall for the past couple of days had fed the river with flood, causing inundation in the eastern-hilly and Madhes-based Tarai districts.
