Police fire tear gas shell to contain mob over a cyclist's death

An elderly cyclist, who was knocked down by a truck in Morang district last evening succumbed to injuries during the treatment on Friday.

Shyam Shah, 60, was hit by a truck near the Integrated Custom Checkpoint in Biratnagar.

Irate relatives of the deceased gathered following the demise of the elderly cyclist and staged a protest since Friday morning, demanding compensation.

As tension escalated, police fired 10 rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the protesting crowd. Local police reported that the tense situation returned to normalcy later.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Morang Police, Nawaraj Karki, a truck with registration number Na 4 Kha 2483 struck cyclist Shah.

SP Karki shared that further interrogation with the truck driver was underway.
