The Election Commission has given a deadline of 4 pm today to the parties to recitfy their closed list of proportional representative (PR) candidates to be elected to the House of Representatives (HoR).
The political parties will have to rectify the closed list of PR candidates cluster-wise and submit it to the election body by 4 pm today.
According to Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, some political parties have submitted the lists without arranging cluster-wise names.
"Those political parties have been given till 4 pm today to correct the list and submit it," he told Nepalkhabar, adding, "After going through the lists submitted, we will publish the corrected lists."
According to a source close to the Elecion Commission, there is minimal chance of publication of the closed list of PR candidates today. "After the political parties sent corrected lists, Election Commision staffers must verify it again. Therefore, the list may not be published today."
As many as 110 PR lawmakers are being elected to the HoR and the parties submitted the list of PR candidates to the election body on Satuday. Only seven political parties meeting the criteria to elect PR lawmakers submitted the lists.
Which parties ought to correct the PR candidates list?
Under PR category, the CPN (UML) has received 34 seats, the Nepali Congress (NC) 32, the CPN (Maoist Center) 14, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) 13, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) seven and the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and the Janamat Party five seats each.
The parties submitted a list of PR candidates to the commission from among the names included in the closed list submitted before the elction.
Spokesperson Poudel said the parties were asked to correct the details of the lists and submitted it. "We have asked five political parties to correct the list and send it again," he said.
According to him, it was found that those parties made mistakes in the list for the province assembly.
The UML, the NC, the Maoist Center, the JSP and the Nagarik Unmukti Party have made various mistakes in the selection of PR lawmakers for the Provincial Assembly.
The Election Commission requested them to correct mistakes and submit the lists.
