Human rights activists have taken to the streets protesting the ordinance meant to amend the Criminal Code 2017.

Activists, including Subodh Pyakurel, Kapil Shrestha and Meen Bahadur Shahi, have staged  demonstration at Maitighar Mandala this (Tuesday) afternoon against the government's move to introduce an ordinance to amend the criminal code.

The protest comes two days after the government decided to introduce an ordinance to amend the criminal code.

They have called on the government to immediately scrap the ordinance being brought to free convicts imprisoned for heinous crimes.

A cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to introduce an ordinance to amend the criminal code with the intention of granting clemency to the leaders and cadres of three parties imprisoned in criminal cases.

The government's move is drawing flak from all quarters.
