Nepal has started exporting 40 megawatts (MWs) of electricity to Bangladesh.
The export of electricity kicked off amidst a ceremony after Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal Deepak Khadka, Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs of India, Manohar Lal and Minister for Power, Energy and Minerals of Bangladesh, M. Fouzul Kabir Khan, virtually pressed the button at 12:30 pm.
With this, the electricity of Nepal, previously exported to India, has been exported to Bangladesh, too. The aforementioned power is being transmitted to Bangladesh through India's 400-kV Muzaffarpur-Beharampur-Bhedamara transmission line.

The electricity export which kicked off at 12:30 pm today will continue till Friday midnight, for a day. Then, Nepal will export electricity to Bangladesh from June 2025.
Although a tripartite agreement was reached in Kathmandu on October 3, Nepal's power export to Bangladesh was delayed due to the lack of necessary approvals from India.
The NEA will export electricity generated from the 25-megawatt Trishuli and 22-megawatt Chilime hydropower plants to Bangladesh.
The NEA has stated that the power export deal has been signed for a duration of five years. Nepal will sell electricity to Bangladesh at the rate of 6.4 US cents per unit, according to the agreement.
