Senior leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel has asked Prime Minister and Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba to help him as the leader of the Parliamentary Party (PP).
Poudel, who reached Baluwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister, claimed that if that happens, there will be a unanimous consensus in his favor.
"Propose me as the PP leader, I will be the leader of the party unopposed," Poudel told Nepalkhabar, quoting his statement with Deuba.
In response, Prime Minister Deuba replied that he would give his consent in this regard after consulting the central working committee (CWC) of the party.
"We have to hold a meeting of the CWC and consult the views of the leaders," Poudel quoted Deuba as saying words.
Following the twin elections held on November 20, President Deuba and General Secretary Gagan Thapa are seen as the main competitors for the post PP leader of the Nepali Congress.
On the other hand, former General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala is also eying the post. Meanwhile, senior leader Poudel has also shown his interest in it.
The ruling coalition still has not decided who will lead the government for the first term of the next five years.
