In the House of Representatives elections held on November 20, the deposits of 4,085 candidates who failed to get 10 percent of the valid votes under the proportional representation (PR) category have been forfeited.

The Election Commission (EC) gave this information while announcing the final vote results on Wednesday.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya said, "The deposits of 1,961 including 1,772 male candidates for the House of Representatives and 2,086 male and 237 female candidates for the Provincial Assembly have been forfeited", Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapalia said.

Similarly, the deposits of the parties that did not get any seats under the First-Past-The-Post system and proportional representation (PR) have also been confiscated, according to Thapaliya

"Forty out of the 47 parties that submitted a closed PR list have forfeited their deposits", he said, adding “at least 3 percent of the votes should be secured to get through the threshold in the House of Representatives.”

Similarly, at least one seat must be secured under the FPTP category to qualify for the national party.

Only seven parties have been declared as the national parties, the EC said announcing the final results of the election today.
