The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has prohibited its newly elected lawmakers from giving public statements to the media.
The RSP instructed its lawmakers not to talk to the media till the time they are sworn in as member of House of Representatives (HoR).
The ban is also partly due to lack of clarity over the party's official policy, stance and its role in the new government.
A RSP lawmaker said, "The party requested us not to give any kind of public statements or interviews to the media prior to oath-taking."
The RSP, which emerged as the fourth power in the November 20 election, has a total of 20 lawmakers elected to the HoR.
In an internal meeting of the party, all elected lawmakers have been asked to refrain from talking to the media for now.
The RSP's such directive was also corroborated by another party official.
"The party's policy and ideology is not yet clear. What kind of program will be brought is also yet to be discussed," the party official told Nepalkhabar, adding, "Even our party chairman is going through personal issues. And, in such situation, we thought we would be better off by staying away from the media."
According to the source, RSP Chair Ravi Lamichhane asked lawmakers not to talk to the media after their recent interviews turned controversial.
