Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba is making preparations to hold the election of the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader at the earliest.
Deuba is in mood to hold the PP elections as soon as possible after NC leader Shekhar Koirala and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, who represent the non-establishment side, piled pressure on the election of the PP leader.
A central work execution committee (CWEC) of the party is taking place for the preparations of the elections of the PP leader today.
According to Krishna Prasad Poudel, central party chief secretary, the meeting will be held at the central party office in Sanepa at 3 pm.
The meeting is expected to form an electoral board for the election of the PP leader, said Poudel.
Once the electoral board is formed, President Deuba will hold the PP election on Monday or Tuesday.
Deuba on Saturday called newly elected NC lawmakers and congratulated them in Baluwatar.
The NC has not been able to forge an agreement on a common leader for the PP leader. Koirala, who was elected as the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Morang 6 and Thapa from Kathmandu-4 have expressed interest for the PP leader.
Deuba is likely to become the next PP leader since both Koirala and Thapa are from the same group.
