Nepali Congress (NC) is making preparations to hold the election of Parliamentary Party (PP) leader on Wednesday.

Deputy General Secretary Bhishma Raj Angdembe, who is also the coordinator of the election committee, informed that the preparations are underway to this end.

“The elections will begin at 8 am at the PP office in Singha Durbar,” Angdembe told media persons.

As per the schedule made public, voter namelist will be published at 2:00 pm on December 19, filing of nominations between 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on December 20 and publication of final namelist of candidates will be held by 5:45 pm the same day.

The candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs 51,000 along with the application of their respective candidacy. The voting will be held from 8 am to 10 am on December 21.

The voters are required to bring a copy of their election certificate for voting. The voting will take place in NC parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar and the vote counting will be held immediately thereafter announcing the results.

Earlier on Sunday, a meeting of the central work execution committee (CWEC) of the party held at Sanepa formed a three-member panel comprising Angdembe as coordinator and Pushpa Bhusal and Prakash Rasaili Snehi as members to conduct the PP election.

There are three contenders vying for the post of the PP leader, namely incumbent party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, General Secretary Gagan Thapa and senior leader Shekhar Koirala.

However, there is a voice is being raised that the only candidate – either Thapa or Koirala - be fielded from the non-establishment side since they contested the 14th General Election from the same panel.
