A meeting of the non-establishment of the Nepali Congress (NC) convened at Hotel Ambassador on Monday afternoon to reach a deal on a common candidate did not yield any transient outcome.

The meeting ended inconclusively after both General Secretary Gagan Thapa and senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala did not budge from their respective stances, said a NC central member.

The NC is holding an election for the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader on Wednesday. Sher Bahadur Deuba is contesting the election from the establishment site.

The meeting will be held at 11 am tomorrow in a bid to reach a common candidate, said the CC member.

"The discussion ended on a positive note. Top leaders and office-bearers put forth their views on this issue," said a leader, adding, "We will sort out the issue by holding a meeting with lawmakers tomorrow."

Ruling NC has won 57 seats under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system and 32 under the proportional representation (PR) category in the elections held on November 20.

Even though the NC made an effort to elect the PP leader unanimously, it failed to reach consensus on a common candidate.

A central work execution committee (CWEC) of the NC on Sunday formed a three-member panel comprising Joint General Secretary Bhisma Raj Angdembe as coordinator while central members Pushpa Bhusal and Prakash Rasaili are members.
