A meeting of the non-establishment faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) is underway to finalize a rival candidate against party President Sher Bahadur Deuba in parliamentary party (PP) leader election.

The election to NC PP leader is taking place at 8 am tomorrow (Wednesday).

The non-establishment faction is trying to forge consensu on common candidacy of either General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa or central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala against NC President Deuba for the party PP leader.

The meeting is underway since 8 am this morning.

The NC has won 57 first-past-the-post (FPTP) seats and 32 proportional representative (PR) seats in the November 20 House of Representatives (HoR) elections.

Though party leaders are attempting to pick a common candidate from the non-establishment faction to contest PP leader election against Deuba, they have not been able to reach an agreement.

According to the decision of the NC central work execution committee held earlier on Sunday, the party has made public the election schedule to elect the party's PP leader.
