The voting to elect the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) is underway at the PP Office in Singha Durbar.
President Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa are vying for the post.
The voting started on the premises of the PP Office at 8 am. It will continue until 10 am.
The votes will be counted once the election is over and results will be announced today itself, said the PP Leader Election Committee.
The parliamentarians elected to the House of Representatives from the NC are the voters.
Senior leaders Ram Chandra Paudel, Prakash Man Singh, Shashank Koirala and Bimalendra Nidhi have said that they will support Deuba. Paudel is a proposer in Deuba's candidacy while his candidacy has been seconded by Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka.
General Secondary Thapa has been proposed by senior leader Shekhar Koirala while Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma and leader Pradeep are his endorsers.
So far, 56 MPs are seen in favor of Deuba and 33 are in favor of Thapa. However, this number may change in the election day.
