Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh has sought the help of CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' in forming a new government under the leadership of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Calling on Prachanda at his residence in Khumaltar on Friday morning, the NC leader urged Maoist Center Chair Prachanda to help Deuba form a new government.
Prachanda, on his part, stressed that he should lead the new government during the initial period.
NC leader Singh's press coordinator UP Lamichhane confirmed Singh's meeting with the Maoist Center chair.
"The two leaders discussed power sharing in Khumaltar this morning. While Singh reasoned that since the NC was the biggest party Deuba should lead the government, Prachanda sought NC's help this time."
After holding discussions with Prachanda, leader Singh went to the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar to brief PM Deuba about his talks with the Maoist Center chair.
The ruling coalition partners have not succeeded in striking a power sharing deal since Prachanda is sticking to his guns. The top leaders of the three ruling parties held in Baluwatar on Thursday evening also ended inconclusively.
Baluwatar sources informed that the top leaders are continuing discussions on Friday afternoon as well.
Prime Minister and NC President Deuba, Maoist Center Chair Prachanda and CPN (United Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussions last evening in Baluwatar.
According to sources, Maoist Center Chair Prachanda is adamant about implementing the old agreement, as per which he is to lead the government during the initial period.
However, the NC and Prachanda have not been able to reach a consensus.
