The government has allocated a total of 228.9 million rupees in budget to the provincial chiefs for the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2082/83 BS.
Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has increased the budget for the operation of the provincial chiefs' offices for the upcoming FY.
In the current FY, the government had estimated an expenditure of Rs 184.6 million, but for the upcoming FY 2082/83, an additional Rs 44.3 million rupees has been allocated.
Among the provincial chiefs receiving the budget, Karnali Province has received the highest budget of Rs 38.2 million followed by Bagmati Province with Rs 36.8 million.
Similarly, Sudurpaschim Province ranks third in terms of receiving the higher budget. The government has allocated Rs 31. 5 million for the Sudurpaschim Province chief, while Madhesh Province has been allocated 39 million and Lumbini Province chief has been allocated 30.7 million rupees.
On the other hand, the chiefs of Koshi and Gandaki provinces have received the lowest budget. The Koshi Province chief has been allocated Rs 35 million rupees, while the Gandaki Province chief has received Rs 33 million.
Rs 6.4 million earmarked for province chiefs' vehicle maintenance
Finance Minister Paudel has earmarked Rs 6.4 million for the vehicle maintenance for the seven provincial chiefs and their offices. Despite receiving the lowest budget, the Gandaki Province chief has been allocated the highest amount for vehicle maintenance.
The government has allocated Rs 1.2 million for the vehicle maintenance of the Gandaki Province chief and their office.
Similarly, the Madhesh Province chief has also been allocated 1.2 million rupees under the same heading. The remaining five provincial chiefs have been allocated Rs 1 million each for vehicle maintenance.
