Top-notch leaders of four parties are holding discussions on the formation of a new government at the residence of CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli in Balkot.
Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Rajendra Lingden has reached Baluwatar to meet with UML Chairman Oli.
Lingden has reached Balkot at a time when UML is rendering efforts to form an alliance for the formation of a new government at the invitation of Oli.
CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' also went to Balkot after his meeting with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba did not yield any transient outcome this morning. In the coalition meeting, Deuba refused to let go of the posts of President and Prime Minister.
Prachanda, who sought support of the NC to be PM, turned towards the UML following NC's stance of not giving either of the two top posts to the Maoist Center.
President Bidya Bhandari has given a deadline of 5 pm Sunday for the formation of the government.
As the deadline is about to expire, the parties are engaged in decisive discussions.
Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party leader Ashok Rai and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane are also participating in the meeting, sources have said.
The UML has 78 MPs, Maoist Center 32, RSP 20 and JSP 12 MPs in the Lower House. The support of 138 MPs is needed to form a government in the 275-member House of Representatives.
The four parties gathered in Balkot command a majority with 140 MPs.
