The Nepali Congress (NC) has lost many key posts after it failed to keep the ruling alliance intact. Until Sunday morning, the Nepali Congress (NC) was trying to save the ruling alliance.

The existing alliance broke up after the CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ joined a new alliance led by CPN (UML).

Prachanda joined the new alliance after his meeting with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba held at Baluwatar did not make any headway after the latter did not let go of the premiership to the Maoist Center.

Leaders of the Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Janamat Party took part in the meeting held at UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli's residence in Balkot on Sunday.

RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden had a separate conversation with Oli before the collective meeting of the parties.

With the new alliance, a new power equation has been created according to which NC will be deprived of many crucial positions including President, Vice President, Prime Minister Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Provincial Heads, Chief Ministers, Speakers and Deputy Speakers of the Provincial Assembly.

The UML, the largest party in Province-1, lack seven seats to form the government. But since the Maoist Center has 13 seats, the new alliance, now, will form the government easily. The UML has 40 seats in the 93-member state assembly. The RPP has six seats and the JSP has one seat. If this alliance continues, the 29-seat NC will have to sit in the opposition in Province-1.

The UML, the Maoist Center, the JSP and the Janamat Party will form the government in Madhesh Province. The UML has 23 seats, the JSP has 16 seats, the Janamat Party has 13 seats and the Maoist Center has eight seats. These four parties will have 60 seats in the 107-member state assembly. Fifty-four seats are required to form the government.

In Bagmati Province, the UML-led coalition with the support of RPP will form the government. the UML has 27 seats and the Maoist Center has 21 seats in the 110-member Province Assembly. The government will be formed if the 13-seat RPP is supported.

In the Gandaki Province, even if the RPP allies with the NC, the UML will form the government. The UML has 22 seats and the Maoist Center has eight seats in Gandaki.

Thirty-one seats are required to form a government in the 60-member state assembly. The RPP has two seats.

The government will be formed in Lumbini too with the support of the RPP. In Lumbini, the UML has 29 seats, the Maoist Center has nine and the JSP has three seats. As the RPP has four seats, it will have a majority in the state assembly. Forty-four seats are required to form the government in the 87-member state assembly.

In Karnali, the government will be formed only if UML and the Maoist Center unite. The Maoist Center has 13 seats and UML has 10 seats in the 40-member province assembly.

Similarly, Nagarik Unmukti Party is decisive in the Sudurpashchim Pradesh. In the 53-member state assembly, the Maoist Center has 11 seats and the UML has 10 seats.
