The Department of Immigration (DoI) has arrested a French women for her involvement in suspicious activities in Nepal.
According to the record maintained by the DoI, she has entered Nepal for 15 times since her first visit in 2014. The DoI had been keeping a close tab on her after finding her activities suspicious.
According to the police, she initially entered Nepal on a student visa after enrolling at Valmeeki Vidyapeeth. However, without completing her studies, she left the country and later reentered on a tourist visa, after which she began engaging in business activities.
Investigations revealed that she operated a bakery café, Terra Tsampa, in Lainchaur and also invested in an indigenous foods shop in Lalitpur.
A foreign tourist (on tourist visa) is not allowed to run any kinds of businesses in the Immigration Regulations, 2051, bars any foreign citizen on tourist visa from running industries, businesses, and engaging in institutes.
According to the provision, the Director General of the DoI can impose a fine up to Rs 50,000 on tourists staying illegally in Nepal, deport them, disqualify them from entering the country –either permanently or for a specified period.
DoI Director General Ramchandra Tiwari said the department will take action against tourists found engaging in activities that violate the terms of their visa or appear suspicious.
