The United States (US) has revoked the visas of over 6,000 foreign students, citing violations of the country's laws and overstaying the permitted duration.
According to the BBC, the US State Department stated that many of them were involved in driving under the influence of drugs, theft, and "supporting terrorism."
This action is part of the Trump administration's strict immigration policy, under which foreign students have also faced tighter scrutiny.
However, the US State Department has not clarified what it means by "supporting terrorism."
The Trump administration has also taken action against students accused of protesting in support of Palestine and engaging in anti-Semitic behavior.
The US State Department said, "Out of the 6,000, the visas of 4,000 individuals were revoked due to legal violations. Among the rest, 200 to 300 visas were revoked under INA 3B on terrorism-related grounds."
