Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who is doing time in custody in connection with a cooperative fraud case, has filed a petition at the Butwal bench of the High Court, Tulsipur.

Lamichhane filed the petition on Monday after the Rupandehi District Court refused to grant him release despite depositing the portion of his liability in the cooperative fraud case.

His petition has been scheduled for hearing on coming Wednesday (August 27). Earlier, he had submitted a petition to the district court, requesting release by depositing his share of his liability in the cooperative fraud case. However, on August 11, the bench of District Court Judge Narayan Sapkota heard his petition and denied him release.

The district court had stated that it could not release him on the ground that the portion of his liability remained unverified.

Just a few days after the district court denied him release, he was transferred to another prison. Previously incarcerated in Bhairahawa Prison, he has been transferred to Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur. Lamichhane has been in Nakkhu Prison for the past two weeks.

The Department of Prison Management, Kalikasthan decided to transfer him two months after he submitted a request for the transfer.
