A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government's decision to ban social media platforms including Facebook. Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi filed the writ petition in the court on Friday afternoon.

His writ petition is in the process of being registered in the Supreme Court.

The government has already directed to deactivate 26 social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Instagram which are not listed in Nepal since Thursday night. Internet service providers (ISPs) have made them work only partially following the government's directive.

Tripathi in the writ has demanded a stay order on the government's decision to silence the voice of citizens and to restore operations to their previous status.
