Two people have died in a clash with police during a demonstration staged by Gen Z in Itahari Sub Metropolitan City, Sunsari on Monday.
Students from schools and colleges in the sub metropolis staged demonstrations shouting slogans against corruption, irregularities, nepotism and lately social media ban.
The situation took a nasty turn after the demonstrators tried to breach the restricted zone. They also barged into the office of the mayor and set the office on fire, according to the administration. To take the mob under control, the security personnel opened fire on the demonstrators, resulting in the death of two protestors.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office, Sunsari, has clamped curfew in the metropolis area since 3 pm. The curfew will take effect until further notice, the administration has said.
The demonstration announced by Gen Z has also taken place in Biratnagar, Pokhara and Kathmandu. The highest number of casualties took place in Kathmandu where 18 people were killed, the police said.
