Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has urged Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Party Madhav Kumar Nepal to join the incumbent government.
A meeting was held among PM Prachanda, leader Nepal and Janata Party Nepal (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav in Hattiban, Lalitpur, this morning.
Prachanda's proposal to leader Nepal comes in the midst of efforts to bring the Unified Socialists into the fold of the newfound ruling coalition. Earlier, the Unified Socialist indicated of extending its support to Prachanda-led government.
The proposal was also made to the JSP, which extends support to the government but has not expressed desire to nominate a minister.
In the meantime, MP Ramsahay Prasad Yadav was elected as the leader of JSP parliamentary party (PP) this afternoon. Now, the JSP is likely to make a formal decision on whether to send a minister to the government.
Prime Minister Prachanda is trying to secure a two-thirds majority by making the United Socialist participate in the government.
"The Prime Minister asked Unified Socialist Chair Nepal to join the government," said the PM's personal secretary Ramesh Malla, adding, "Both leaders told the PM that they would discuss the matter in their respective parties. The Maoist Center is positive on their participation."
