Uddhav Thapa has been elected as the leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Province 1 parliamentary party (PP).
Securing 18 votes, Thapa defeated rivals Kedar Karki and Amrit Aryal.
Karki and Aryal received nine and two votes respectively.
Thapa, who is also the president of NC Province 1 Working Committee, is close to former NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
Similarly, Karki is close to Dr Shekhar Koirala and Aryal is perceived to be close to the establishment faction led by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
In Province 1, there are 12 provincial assembly members from the establishment side. However, sources said of Aryal has lost favor from the party establishment faction.
