Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala held a meeting with leaders close to him and informed them about the upcoming strategy and the actions he intends to take.
At a gathering held in Kathmandu on Friday, which included available district presidents, former presidents, signatories to the special general convention petition, and Central Working Committee (CWC) members, he stated that the party must hold its 15th general convention before going into the election.
"I have been saying for a long time that the 15th General Convention of Nepali Congress must be completed by mid-December. Given the time constraints and circumstances, if it cannot be done by mid-December, it must be completed by mid-January at all costs," he said. "We must complete the general convention before the upcoming general elections and go into the polls with new and fresh leadership."
He also stressed that the mid-January timeline should not contradict with the schedule published by the Election Commission for the elections.
Koirala also further said in the meeting that if the regular General Convention is not held on time, it will automatically lead to a special general convention.
"If the date for the regular General Convention is not declared and the action plan is not advanced by the ongoing Central Working Committee, the special general convention will automatically happen," Dr Govinda Pokharel, a participant of the gathering, quoted Koirala as saying.
Koirala also called for unity in the party by forsaking stubbornness and ego. "I want unity and reconciliation in the party. I want to end factions, sub-factions, and splits. We must move forward without any bias or prejudice against anyone."
