The Ujyaalo Nepal Party, closely associated with Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, has submitted updated working committee details to the Election Commission of Nepal (EC-N) ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
The party, originally registered on August 12 under Man Bahadur Tamang, has now been reorganized under the chairmanship of former Energy Secretary Anup Kumar Upadhyay.
Jitram Waiba informed Nepalkhabar that the move is an "update of the working committee," not a new registration, undertaken to meet the November 16 deadline for party registration.
While Ghising currently holds the portfolios of Energy, Physical Infrastructure, and Urban Development in the interim government led by Sushila Karki, he will not actively lead the party until closer to the polls. He is understood to be planning to take over as party president just before the election.
The updated list of members includes notable figures such as Dr Tara Joshi (independently elected MP from Dadeldhura Provincial Assembly 2), Professor Dr Mahendra Lawati, famous program presenter Rima Bishwakarma, Khadga Bahadur Basnet, and Tashi Lhajom. Furthermore, Kiran BK, who registered the 'Gen Z Party,' has also joined Ujyaalo Nepal Party.
However, former MP Sumana Shrestha and Hami Nepal coordinator Sudan Gurung have not joined the party as members yet, though Waiba confirmed an agreement to "work in collaboration."
This follows a Tuesday morning discussion between Ghising, Sumana, and Sudan at the Minister's residence regarding long-term collaboration. The party has requested the symbol of an electric bulb for the upcoming election.
