Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has resigned from his post.
Chief Minister Yadav announced his resignation while addressing the provincial assembly meeting held on Wednesday for the purpose of taking a vote of confidence. Addressing the assembly, he claimed that the previous Chief Ministers also did not take the oath at the Office of the Province Chief.
"There were four Chief Ministers before me, all of them took the oath at different places," Yadav said, "One Chief Minister took the oath at the sports ground. Another Chief Minister took the oath in the hall. Another Chief Minister took the oath in the square in front of the Chief Minister’s Office and another Chief Minister took the oath in the hall. Where did the Chief Minister take the oath? The issue of where they took the oath is not a matter of concern."
He said that he was not worried about the vote of confidence as his appointment was mandatory. Stating that he became the Chief Minister as a member of the largest party, he claimed that he played a responsible role toward the people. He said that no matter how many days he served as Chief Minister, he worked tirelessly to protect the constitution.
"The question of whether the government formed under Article 168, Clause 3 of the Constitution should work or not has been raised a lot," he added, "The time it got, it worked for the people of the province."
He thanked the three newly appointed ministers for supporting him even in difficult situations. The Chief Minister needs the support of 54 MPs to get a vote of confidence in the 107-member Provincial Assembly.
UML has 25 seats in the Madhesh Province Assembly.
